Mario
Pitocco was born in Letino (Caserta) in 1931. He completed
the first cultural development at Naples secondary
school specialized in scientific studies; after the
two year course of study of Engineering in Bologna,
he enrolled in the Architecture faculty at Naples
University and at the same time he cared much for
painting: he has made exhibitions in Naples since
1954. After 1956 followed a five years period in which
he matured a personal expressional language through
a slow process and he had a lot of experiences of
scene-painter and journalist. Since 1961 he has increased
his pictorial activity, constituted by participating
to international, national, common, extemporary exhibitions:
he has drawn attention and won prizes several times.
In 1982, in New York, during the "CULTURAL MEETING
ITALY-USA" , he gained the "NEW YORK PRIZE".
His pictures are the expression of a contemporary
awareness, solving current doubts and problems, interior
anxieties and necessities: the personages,( women
expecially), are the protagonists of an inner tragedy
being always universal and for this reason comprehensible
for everybody. Through a painting, evident mirror
of a suffered idea of life, Pitocco is always looking
for an excitement, a poetic truth and just through
the unexpected disposition of the things, the originality
and oddness of the chromatic matchings, he gets examples
of fresh, light and dreamy contemplation. In a period
of extra-artistic adventures and revivals, Mario Pitocco
has found a personal way of which he becomes part,
peacefully, with harmony and great themes sensitization.
A thin and winding graphic art envelops in a nearly
invisible net the subject, and always is towering
the white, appeasing and upsetting at the same time.
