Luciana
Riva was born in Noceto (PR) and lives and works in
Parma. She attended the Isituto d'Arte P.Toschi in
Parma and taught Art classes in the local middle-school.
Riva specializes in poetic paintings of great impact:
her subjects are wheat fields, poppy-strewn lawns,
luxuriant ditch-edges where vegetation, flowers, leaves
and the finer grass- blades are each depicted stem
by stem, in great particular, though without any mawkish
intention to it with surprisingly fresh and clear
strokes. Riva also holds the painting's perspective,
harmonious composition and delicate chromatism in
due consideration and manages thus to assemble works
that certainly draw their inspiration from the 19th
century Parmese tradition and yet transcend it, moving
towards a more contemporary objectivity which witnesses
the artist's technical skills as well as her poetic
vein that finds its expression in the gentleness of
her compositions and the mildness of her yellows and
greens, sprinkled with red poppies.
