Enrico
Sereni was born in Moterubiaglio, a tiny umbrian village
close to Orvieto, in 1943. Fascinated since young
age by pictorial arts he strived to gain a deeper
insight into the subject, besides his passion for
it, attending the Istituto Statale d'Arte in Rome
where he studied under the guidance of Prof. Alberto
Ziveri. Sereni's paintings, which, on account of their
naturalistic representation of reality, might be regarded
as classical in spite of the presence of themes peculiar
to the contemporary international panorama, transmit
to the onlooker the most intimate feelings lying behind
them. His famous depictions of alleys and foreshortenings
of time-honoured umbrian and tuscan villages, lit
up by strokes of dazzling light, make us sense the
essence of the space and profoundness that hallmark
his work. A very talented artist, Sereni can be defined
a real painter, having managed throughout his career
to combine technical mastery and artistic inspiration.
His pictures are realistic but never photographic
and the houses of the ancient villages he depicts
with exact brush-strokes create visions of particular
purity in the continuous and exciting play of lights
and shadows. Sereni's works, today to be found in
several collective and personal exhibitions, always
received great reviews from critics and general public
and have been awarded several prizes for their originality
as well as their masterful execution. Sereni's paintings
can be seen in private collections in Italy and, above
all, in the USA.
