Piero Tartaglia :

Peter Tartaglia was born in October 5th 1933, at Civitavecchia (Rome). In 1951 he gets near Serge Poliakoff's "The European Group" avant-gardist current, with Karel Appel, Santomaso, Albert Bitram, Lucembert, Pierre Alechinske, Corneille. Attracted by abstract and informal tendencies, he matures a pictorial search through territories that are not set in horizontal, but developed in vertical apparitions, according to a gravity law, where it isn't necessary to test the statics of masses and volumes; but, on the contrary, to exploit at the most the ability of association and the eclecticism of materials. And, in his case, even if materials are heavy matters, Peter Tartaglia visibly uses, with pragmatic lightness, this patchwork of colors and signs freeing himself from the problem of ideological clients. Spatulas and brushes transmit anxious "signals of occupation" on ineffectual forms, that grow thick and shatter in the three-dimensional space, on which image unravels and prepares its run. It is this the least encumbrance of diaphragm between idea and its realization; it is a least thickness, that allows a contraction between conceived and executive moment. The field of produced images brings us to moral, ethical sense (there is no drama around mutation), it is a breaking up and then rebuilding scheme. In other terms, it is like the overlapping of an idea on another, a true building, an image above another, an architecture as a new objectivity, to put an end to the disturbance of "unloading" of "overart" on architecture impossibility. That is not obviously personal, but social and historical.
